It's thicker. There are more design options. Standard sheet vinyl has come a long way in design availability, thanks to technology, it is still available only as sheet or composite tiles. The cuts make a big difference because many feel that the extra seams add to the realism. Some take it even further by using grout with the tile-sized pieces.
This vinyl is layered and at the top is a clear melamine wear sheet, available in thicknesses of six, 12, or 20 mils. This protects the floor from scratches and scuffs. It also adds to the ease of maintenance, because it keeps spills from absorbing. They just sit at the top waiting to be wiped off!
If the image looks dull or fuzzy, it's likely a lesser quality. This is why we tell people to beware of the ultra inexpensive bargain-basement brands. Corners will be cut somewhere.
Installation is s fast and uncomplicated floating floor technique. Pieces fit together much like a tongue and groove. They form a mat which then hovers over the subfloor with no nails or glue needed. Subfloors need only to be clean and debris-free, dry, and level.
